It has been approximated that about 1 in 6 people in the united kingdom will experience depression at some point in their lives. The precise figures are harder to come by as many people do not seek out professional medical assistance and cope with the signs and symptoms by themselves. Depression is one of the most common mental conditions and it’s the most stigmatised as well as it is often hard for people to comprehend what afflicted individuals are going through.

There are a variety of factors that will contribute to depression and some people may feel just one or a mixture of them. Amongst the more widespread reasons for depression are serious illnesses, death or loss and substance abuse. Some types of prescription medication which are used to treat high blood pressure levels can cause depression and there’s also a hereditary factor as depression has been shown to run in families.

There’s a range of symptoms that people who have depression may go through and people frequently suffer from one or more at the same time. These include sensations of overpowering sadness coupled with guilt, hopelessness and worthlessness. Individuals suffering from depression will frequently lose all interest in the things which they would usually enjoy and also have difficulty focusing for any period of time. Low energy levels along with not being able to sleep are further signs of depression as are variations in weight.

The management of depression can be accomplished in a number of ways dependant upon the individual case and a combination of treatment options can often be the right answer. The most common way to treat depression is with anti-depressants that are proscribed under professional medical supervision. These work by increasing the supply of neurotransmitters in the brain or by altering how sensitive the receptors within the brain are to chemicals such as serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. There’s a range of alternative treatments obtainable that have been found to help and talking treatment options such as psycho-therapy have a proven track record.

Although depression is a very common condition there is still a lot of stigma attached to it. It is often very hard for acquaintances and members of the family to comprehend that depression can not be just snapped out of. If you are suffering from depression or know someone who could be there is plenty of help open to you and you don’t have to suffer alone.

A reduction of 9.5% of salt intake, can result in a modest decline in the blood pressure level, minimising the risk of a heart attack or stroke. You should seriously think, now, on cutting down salt intake, if you believe in “Health is Wealth”.

Cervical cancer is the most common cancer in women.According to World Health Organization (WHO), every year more than 1 lac women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 74,118 women die from this disease. The majority of these women live in developing countries, including over 100,000 in India alone.

What is cervical cancer?

Cervical cancer, a malignancy of the cervix, is the second most common cancer in the world affecting women. The cervix is the lower part othe uterus (womb). It is sometimes called the uterine cervix. The body of the uterus (the upper part) is where a baby grows. The cervix connects the body of the uterus to the vagina (birth canal). The part of the cervix closest to the body of the uterus is called the endocervix. The part next to the vagina is the exocervix (or ectocervix). The 2 main types of cells covering the cervix are squamous cells (on the ectocervix) and glandular cells (on the endocervix). The place where these 2 cell types meet is called the transformation zone. Most cervical cancers start in the transformation zone.

Cervical Cancer

Most cervical cancers begin in the cells lining the cervix. These cells do not suddenly change into cancer. Instead, the normal cells of the cervix first gradually develop
pre-cancerous changes that turn into cancer.Cervical cancers and cervical pre-cancers are classified by how they look under a microscope. There are 2 main types of cervical cancers: squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Most of the remaining cervical cancers are adenocarcinomas. Adenocarcinomas are becoming more common in women born in the last 20 to 30 years.

Cervical Cancer Symptoms :

*Abnormal bleeding.
*Unusual heavy discharge.
*Pelvic pain.
*Pain during urination.
*Bleeding between regular menstrual periods, after sexual intercourse, douching, or pelvic exam.

Please keep in mind that these cervical cancer symptoms are also symptoms of many other illnesses. If you are experiencing these cervical cancer symptoms, please see a doctor. He or she will most likely do a pelvic exam and may order further tests.

Prevention is better than cure. Be alert be in swank health.

3) Get better guidance with professional help in achieving weight loss goals and try to be a role model for the next generation. It has become a knee jerk reaction in people who gain weight to stop consuming non-vegetarian food, quitting dinner, eating wheat instead of rice, eating only two meals in a day, using fruit extracts, going on crash diets, water only or juice only diets, etc.

Excess weight affects your swank health, calls ailments frequently, puts up chances of heart diseases, puts down productivity and self confidence.

Migraines are more common in women than in men, affecting about one in four women and one in 12 men. May be the difference is hormonal, why migraines affect more women than men. A vague justification for this could be that some women find that migraine attacks are more frequent around the time of their periods. However, this association has not been fully proven.

It is quite possible that migraine starts later in life. However, it is more common for the condition to begin in childhood or as a young adult. About nine out of 10 people who experience migraines have their first one before they are 40 years old.

Types of Migraine —

There are two types of migraine –

1) Classical Migraine -
Classical migraine is referred so when the headache includes symptoms of aura*.

2) Common Migraine-
Common migraine is referred so when a person does not experience aura* symptoms.

Some people experience migraine attacks frequently, up to several times a week. Other people only experience a migraine occasionally. It is possible for years to pass between migraine attacks.

*A sensation (as of a cold breeze or bright light) that precedes the onset of certain disorders such as a migraine attack or epileptic seizure.

Migraines definitely affect the productivity of a person and directly or indirectly, the swank health suffers.

‘Anti-inflammatory diet’ is based on the principle that many ill health conditions are caused by chronic inflammation, which is in turn caused by a hyperactive immune system.
Some doctors believe that by eating foods that calm the immune system, such as brightly-colored fruits, oily fish and nuts, people can avoid some of the health conditions that plague modern society.

Antioxidants in fruits and vegetables help curb the action of free radicals, which destroy healthy cells, exacerbating the damage at inflamed sites.

Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Keep as much different coloured varieties of fruits, in your plate, as you can. This would definitely make you live long and be in swank health all your life.

Before marriage it is important to tests for HIV and/or other STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases). With several countries making pre-marital screening a part of legislation, many couples entering into wedlock now think it necessary to know about the physical well-being of their partners before they marry, particularly about their reproductive ability and diseases that could be transmitted sexually.

STDs or venereal disease (VD) or simply STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections), which need attention during pre-marital checkups, are Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Herpes, Chlamydia, HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) and many more. They get transmitted via physical relations. Some STIs can also be transmitted by the use of IV drug needles (used by an infected person), through childbirth or breastfeeding. Consult venereologist, gynecologist etc. for detailed information.

Give it a thought now and your married life would be in swank health.

Be healthy be happy!
