It is estimated that 50.8 million people will be affected by diabetes in India by 2010, making it the world’s diabetes capital. Within India, Hyderabad is on the top, where you can find the most diabetic patients; 14 per cent of the adult population above 20 years is diabetic.
The WHO attributes the increasing number of adults and children turning diabetic to unhealthy eating habits, absence of exercise and rising stress levels. However, unlike many other diseases, diabetes can be controlled, though if it goes untreated, the consequences are serious.
Let us resolve to work at modifying our lifestyles, teaching our children to live healthier, and undergoing periodic medical checks to prevent succumbing to diabetes.
